SNEHA invites you to Dekha Andekha/Seen Unseen, an exhibition of photographs on life and health in urban slums. These photographs have been shot by Sunita, Komal, Asma and Zarina, women survivors of domestic violence and Rohit and Rupesh, young community volunteers trained by SNEHA. The photographers have been trained by photojournalist Sudharak Olwe.On from the 4th to the 12th of February 2012 at the Kalaghoda Arts Festival. Pavement Gallery opposite Joss.Please do visit the exhibition to encourage the budding photographers.
- Local women from Dharavi are learning photography to capture the health related aspects of their lives and their community. Their focus is Where do people go for care and what do they do at home. With this theme they are tracing lives of pregnant women, elderly citizens, environmental hazards, and more. They are being mentored by Sudharak Olwe and his team.
- Drawing from the skills of potters in Khumbarwada, Dharavi, local residents are going beyond their daily routines with clay to explore other skills and designing art. With the potential to use different stoneware and different clays, the final artwork may be small pieces or range to a large installation. They are being mentored by Anjani Khanna, Rashi Jain and Neha Kudchadkar.
- Furthering their daily work of using needles and thread, women from the Santa Cruz area will come together to create self-portrait of sorts. Using images printed on textiles, the women will fashion portraits as they envision themselves by embellishing and using a collage effect. They will hone their skills as the sessions progress to utilize in their artwork. They will be mentored by Susie Vickery.
- The art of the three groups will be pieced together into a final exhibit. The vision is to intertwine the various mediums to create a complete exhibit. From the possibility of it being a mobile entity to the use of animation, the options are endless. The result will be a collaborative effort headed by Nandita Kumar.
